How to Create an Awesome Blog with Mininum Knowledge of CSS or PHP!
// oktober 28th, 2009 // Successful Blogging
As you probably noticed; WhenIgetrich.com has had a complete makeover. Of course, I hope you like it. I, for one, am very proud. Why? Because I’ve made it all by myself and I barely know PHP or CSS! My knowledge goes as far as i.e. changing the colors of borders, or place something in the center. Because I’ve previously owned other website, I do know some HTML. So with this knowledge – which isn’t that much – I’ve still managed to make a pretty cool design. How? Here’s how!
-
First off, if you’re looking for cool themes, I advise to purchase one from Woothemes. They have a wide variety of themes, each of them available in different colors and styles. So, out-the-box they’re fully customizable. Besides that, the guys and girls at Woothemes offer great support. If you have any questions about or trouble with adjusting your theme to your wishes, it’s easy to contact them and you’ll have an answer in no-time. But you’ll be able to do a lot of adjusting all by yourself. For example, the codes in the ’style.css’ is neatly arranged and easy to figure out. Even for people with a minimum amount of CSS-knowledge – like me. Click here to go to Woothemes.com.
- After you’ve picked your theme and you have an idea of what you want your website to look like, you’ll probably be in need of some images. Of course it’s possible to pick them up from Google-images – like everybody does – BUT be aware that this is not allowed. I advise you to get your images for a small fee (one or two dollars incl. full license) at Dreamstime. They have a wide variety of images – and on top of that – they’re cheaper than the well known GettyImages or iStockphoto. The images I’ve used were like $ 6,- on iStockPhoto, and I’ve got them for $ 2,- at Dreamstime. Click here to go to Dreamstime.com.
- Now you have your theme, background and color schemes figured out, your website needs a catchy logo. To design a bit of a logo you’ll need Adobe Photoshop. Don’t worry, you won’t have to figure out how it works before you start, because Webdesign.org has all sorts of FREE tutorials that you can use to design whatever you like.
- Of course you will want to promote your RSS-Feed and Facebook-, Twitter- or other accounts. An article on Cheth Studios’ Blog provides a huge collection of different social network icons. Click here to read ‘Social Network Icons Reloaded’.
Well! Now you’re should be all set. It’s time to start boosting content!
I’ll get back to you tomorrow with a list of must-have plugins for your wordpress theme. And also a list of affiliates, great to give you a first boost in sales – if you would like to make some money of your blog of course.
If you have any other tips for beginning bloggers, please feel free to leave a comment!
GOOD LUCK!

Well, I read an article recently on Site Sketch 101 about a company called CSS with Color. They translate PSD to PHP or something. Read it here, it all sounds very promising. http://www.sitesketch101.com/css-with-colour
Good theme will always be a start. Installing plugins is a must for web optimization.
